Apple offers a file system called Hierarchical File System (HFS) that is originally designed for use on floppy and hard disk drive in computer systems running Macintosh operating system. HFS file system is also referred to as HFS Standard file system. Apple replaced the Macintosh File System (MFS) by HFS specifically to support Apple’s first Hard Disk Drive (HDD) for Macintosh operating system. HFS volume may be deleted due to various situations, but nothing to worry you can recover deleted HFS volume by using good third party Mac partition recovery software.

Apple offers another file system called HFS Plus or HFS+ that is a primary file system used in Mac systems or other systems running Macintosh operating system. HFS Plus file system is also referred as HFS Extended file system. HFS Plus file system is an improved version of HFS Standard that supports much larger files and uses Unicode for naming the files and folders. There is one more version of HFS Plus file system is introduced by Apple called HFSX file system and the HFSX volumes are almost similar to HFS Plus volumes. The HFS Plus or HFSX volumes may be deleted due to various situations such as using third party partitioning utility, accidental deletion of Mac volume, corruption or damage to the HFS Plus file system and accidental formatting or reformatting the HFS Plus formatted Mac volumes etc. Let us briefly describe few important case scenarios in which the HFS volume can be deleted.

  • Deletion of HFS volume using disk utility: Disk Utility is an application created by Apple and it is used to perform disk related tasks in Mac systems. These tasks include creation, conversion, compression and encryption of disk images, mounting, un-mounting and ejecting hard disk drive and other removable media, enabling or disabling journaling and many more. Disk Utility has a feature known as live partitioning with this feature user can create new Mac volume also he or she can resize or delete the existing Mac volume. Using live partitioning feature in Disk Utility, if you have accidentally deleted the HFS plus formatted Mac volume then this may lead to loss of data on the Mac hard disk drive.
  • Accidental formatting of HFS volume: Suppose you are trying to install the operating system and you have accidentally formatted the wrong volume. However this could lead to loss of data on the Mac hard disk drive.

Nothing to be worried you can recover deleted HFS volume and recover lost Mac data from the Mac hard disk drive by using Remo Recover (Mac) – Pro Edition software. This Mac partition recovery software efficiently recovers deleted or lost HFS volume and recovers the lost Mac data from the Mac hard disk drive. You can download demo version of this software that has an ability to preview recovered data in a Mac finder styled interface before saving. Using this software you can recover deleted or lost HFS Plus and HFSX volume from Notebook, iMac, iBook and Macbook. You can also make use of this software to recover formatted Mac data from Mac hard disk drive.
